P.R.P.C. “BR” – Detailed urban implementation plan
San Daniele del Friuli, Udine, Italy
YEAR
2007
CLIENT
Private
ASSIGNMENT
Architectural Design
LOT SIZE
68600 m²
This is agricultural land located in a rural area dedicated to crop and dairy farming.
The project was to identify and plan the facilities necessary for the expansion of the business based on the needs of the client and working around the existing operational systems, structures and buildings. This included the construction of a milking center, barns, storage areas for agricultural equipment, greenhouses, free stalls, as well as residential accommodation for the family who own this farm.
The expansion of the free stalls involved ensuring that the animals are protected from the cold in the Winter and have adequate ventilation in the Summer months. The wind direction played a key role in deciding the orientation of the buildings. Any odors associated with livestock activities had to be minimized so as not to reach the urban areas. Practical service areas had to be set out within the buildings to facilitate the cleaning and milking processes. All mechanical equipment will be housed in a separate building. The road, for exclusive use by staff was planned around the existing and yet to be built structures. Footpaths were placed at a distance from the roads that would be used by tractors and other farming vehicles.
Provisions were made for fodder to be stored in barns, food storage silos, and concrete bunkers that would be located in strategic, easily accessible areas.
A huge garden area was allocated to the house which will separate the private residence from the farming activities. It is mandatory to plant indigenous trees along the perimeter to obscure the buildings from view and also to provide adequate shade for the facilities, structures and parked vehicles.
