INER Concrete Producing Plant
Majano, Udine, Italy
ASSIGNMENT
Architectural Design
It is the first enclosed concrete plant of its kind in the region. It was an ambitious project, whose aim it was to optimize the production process using highly sophisticated systems with the lowest impact on the environment possible.
When one thinks of a concrete plant one imagines an isolated location, most often on busy streets or near rivers, dominated by giant silos and conveyor belts.
This plant was strategically located in the immediate vicinity of the quarries of the Tagliamento River.
The production and mixing mechanism has an integrated system which recycles and purifies the water used for washing the cement mixers. Any negative impact on the landscape has been minimized by locating all the machinery inside the structure and planting grass to cover the natural hill used by mixer trucks to access the discharge level. As a result, noise and dust are virtually absent in the area.
